American Quarter Horse

Summer Classic Economic Impact

To figure the economic impact of your show on the surrounding area, the following formula can be used.

(Actual number of horses X 2.5 people per horse = total people) X (Actual show days + 1 move in/out days X $140 per diem = total $) = $directly into city.

Then multiply $ directly into city by 4 (estimated number of times each tourist dollar turns over in the economy)  = total economic impact.

Well, here is how I did the economic impact for Summer Classic in Central Point:

(866.67 X 2.5 = 2166.68) X (4+1 X $140 + $700) = $1,516,676

$1,516,676 X 4 = $6,066,704

The total economic impact of the Summer Classic is estimated at $6,066,704.

2009 Summer Classic Sponsors & Awards

Jackson County Expo Center; Central Point, Oregon

Dear Exhibitors,

The Oregon Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors and our members welcome you to beautiful Central Point, Oregon and the Oregon Summer Classic Horse Show and OQHA Open Futurities.

This years Summer Classic promises to be bigger, better than ever. Along with a great selection of classes and futurities, this year we have again included NSBA dual approved classes and NRHA approved reining classes.   This show has proven to be a World Class Show and OQHA will continue that tradition.  Not to mention our annual exhibitors Wine & Cheese welcome event & the Exhibitors BBQ mid-week!

Our show has a lot of fun, family activities planned to make your show and the week with us an experience you will want to re-live every year. The Sunday night prior to the start of the show, we host a free exhibitor’s wine & cheese reception held on the lawn between the Compton and Isola arenas. On Friday (our day off) there are several choices of activities designed to help you enjoy our region & your day off. You can join in the fun with a wild ride down the Rogue River on our exclusive OQHA rafting trips.  If you have never taken this ride, be prepared for the time of your life.  For those who enjoy golf, Friday morning will be the OQHA golf tournament held at the world-class golf course in Eagle Point. The fishing on the Rogue River last year was great, so let us help you book a salmon-fishing trip that you will remember long after the show is over. Last year’s BBQ was a blast, so plan on attending for a great meal and a chance to socialize with others.

This year our sponsors have come through again to ensure that no one gives better awards than the Oregon Summer Classic.  Bob’s Custom Saddles, Caliente Saddle Shop saddles, reserve All Around awards, custom made buckles for every class, reserve class award jackets and over $6,0000.00 in daily class awards.  Please help us to recognize and thank those companies and individuals that have contributed so much to make our show world class.

If you have any questions or concerns on how we can make your week with us a more enjoyable time, please feel free to talk with our excellent show manager, Justin Kindley and our very friendly show staff.

I am looking forward to visiting with everyone and having a great time at this year’s show. Thank you all for coming.
